Current and former residents:
- “I really enjoyed living at Mike’s Place. It is a great environment for someone in their early recovery.”
- “Mike’s place helped to save my life. That might sound hyperbolic but it’s true. Even though I had a decent amount of clean time when I left treatment I wasn’t ready to live completely on my own and I needed more support than an Oxford House can provide. Even though I chafed at some of the rules and didn’t always agree with my fellow housemates or the house manager I was always safe and always supported in an environment that helped me to grow and develop new qualities. The house itself is amazing and the people that run it and support it are nothing short of angels, they will give you the shirts off of their backs to help you and always have your best interests at heart. I still keep in touch with the friends I made at Mike’s place and it will always be an important part of my journey in recovery. I was lucky to find a bed there and lucky that I was more concerned with staying clean than having everything my way, if you are ready to change then this is the perfect place to do it.”
- “Making the decision to move into Mikes Place was easily one of the best decisions I have made in my recovery. the atmosphere is friendly, welcoming, and educational. I was held accountable and learned many life skills both for the regular world and my recovery. I made many lasting relationships with wonderful people and I would recommend this house to anyone really trying to get a leg up in their recovery. The staff who manage the house are wonderful people and would do anything to help. I am so grateful for this experience and look forward to life. “
- ” Words can not express the gratitude I have for Mike’s Place. If you are looking for some structure in your recovery in a safe environment, this is the place to be. It truly has taught me the skills I need to live my life to the fullest potential. I came in not knowing how to take care of myself and do the simple things like laundry, grocery shopping and getting a hold on my finances. However, with the help of the house, I was able to learn how to challenge myself and overcome many hurdles to becoming a real member of society. Mike’s Place is something special for those who want recovery.”
Recovery and treatment center professionals:
- “I really enjoyed the open dialogue that the residents had with staff at the dinner meeting. The amount of openness and honesty about goals, challenges, and accomplishments were solution-focused and being part of the solution is what recovery is all about.”

- “Thank you so much for hosting [us] last evening for dinner at Mike’s Place. It was such a wonderful experience and one of the highlights of my trip to DC. I loved having the opportunity to spend time with the residents and experience the sense of community that you have created there for men in early recovery.”
- “Just a quick note before the weeks slip away to say thank you very much for the dinner on Monday. It is always truly amazing to see the work you are doing, but moreover to meet the guys you serve.”
- “Thank you for inviting me to join everyone Monday evening. There is something so comforting and special about Mike’s Place. I have visited a lot of sober living environments, but Mike’s Place is different. And the guys really come to know and respect each other—they told me this repeatedly. You have created a very unique atmosphere there, and it begins with your personal dedication.”
